Members of the Atlantic Arc Commission (AAC) meet on Friday 26 June for their General Assembly. Due to the coronavirus pandemic the General Assembly will take place online.
One of the key speakers will be Mrs. Elisa Ferreira, European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms speaking about the European Commission proposals for recovery from the COVID-19 crisis and the impact on our territories. After that Mrs. Ferreira will participate in a debate with the political representatives of the Atlantic Arc Commission.
Katie Cavell, SAFER project partner and Executive Secretary of the CPMR Atlantic Arc Commission will present the SAFER recommendations based on project’s experiences.
As a network of regions, the CPMR Atlantic Arc Commission has led the capitalisation activities of the project and shared SAFER’s results with Atlantic Regions, in particular with members of its Fisheries Working Group. Through participation in the SAFER project, the AAC was able to act as a capacity building network for regions. As a European network, the AAC was also able to connect the results of the SAFER project with the EU policy context, such as the measures to address the impact of COVID-19 on the seafood sector, the EU Recovery Plan, and the Green Deal and its Farm to Fork Strategy.
Donegal County Council councillor Niamh Kennedy will also reflect on the impact that the SAFER project has made in North West Crossborder Irish region thanks to the involvement of ERNACT (Lead partner), Udaras na Gaeltachta, Letterkenny Institute of Technology and Derry and Strabane District Council.
During the morning, Atlantic Arc Commission will present the provisional roadmap of activities in 2020 and early 2021.
